【摘要】:1.1Thisterminologycoverspolymericbiomaterialsinmedicalandsurgicaldevices.Termsaredefinedastheyareusedrelativetomedicalandsurgicalmaterialsanddevices.Termsthataregenerallyunderstoodandincommonusageoradequatelydefinedinotherreadilyavailablereferencesarenotincludedexceptwhereparticulardelineationtobiomaterialsmaybemoreclearlystated.1.2Thisterminologyisthereforeintendedtobeselectiveoftermsusedgenerallyinmaterialsscienceandtechnologyandpublishedinanumberofdocuments,suchasthoselistedinthesucceedingsections.ThelistingisalsointendedtodefinetermsthatappearprominentlywithinotherASTMstandardsanddonotappearelsewhere.1.3ThedefinitionsaresubstantiallyidenticaltothosepublishedinotherASTMstandardsonmetals,ceramicsandglass,rubbersandpolymers,andsoforth,orpublishedbyotherstandardswritingorganizations,suchasInternationalStandardsOrganization(ISO),AmericanInstituteofMechanicalEngineers(AIME),AmericanSocietyofPlasticandReconstructiveSurgeons(ASPR),andTissueCultureAssociation(TCA).1.4Aneedexistsforthisterminologytosupplementcurrentdocumentsonterminologywhichconcentrateonmaterials.Thisterminologycoverseachofthefollowingdisciplines:plastics(polymers),rubber(elastomers),andtextiles(polymerderived).1.5Anincreasingnumberofproduct(polymeric,metallurgical,andceramictypes)designationsanddesignationsforchemical,physical,mechanical,andanalyticaltestsandstandardsarecomingintocommonusageintheliteratureandcommerceofbiomaterialsinmedicalandsurgicaldevicesandclinicalservices.Sectionliststhosedocumentsreferencedinthisterminology.1.6Table1listsabbreviated,anagramicdesignations.AnnexA1isathesaurusofgeneralusagetermsrelatingtobiomaterials.
